Passing Places

Written for Celtic Connections 2009, takes the form of a musical and filmic journey through the spectacular scenery and cultural riches of the Coigach peninsula, in Mairearad’s native Wester Ross.

Also reflecting 2009’s celebration of homecoming, the music’s recurrent motifs and changing themes unfold against a visual backdrop created by Magnus Graham.

“it was a great privilege to be part of an event that showcased imagination, musicianship, love of home and friendship – and presented with an honesty that is refreshing and hugely compelling. It was evident from Saturday’s performance that the future of the tradition is in extremely capable hands. Wonderful.”

Bryan Beattie, Creative Services, Scotland.

“As the moving images of Wester Ross fluttered by, so too, did feelings of homeland and belonging – a strong theme running throughout Green’s piece.”

“Including stomping pipe reels, heart warming slow airs and catchy interwoven themes, executed with technical prowess from the musicians, this piece was a varied and overwhelming listening experience”

Michael MacLennan, STV
